Be Home in Penang is an independent, non-profit organization that takes care of disabled children and adults in society free of charge who have faced difficulties in their lives by providing them a conducive environment to live and grow without the challenges that an able-bodied society has inadvertently placed upon them. As their numbers grow however, the organization has been facing issues such as financial distress, insufficient facilities and food supply.

The human touch on this occasion was precious to us, we gathered a team of 9 interns together with 5 employees from Sophic Automation & Mnosys to participate in social welfare activities at Be Home. The group was divided into 5 teams to lead and conduct various activities; including a warm up exercise, followed by a dancing session, singing session, and finally, a colouring session. During lunch time, we also had a friendly chat & connect session with the tenants of Be Home. Beyond doubt, we also had a team solely focused on photo and video shooting of the whole event so we'd have mementos of our time there.

The last song was “Bole Chudiyan” from the movie “KhabhiKhushi Kabhi Gham”. While this started as a sing-along song. Fatimah, one of the dancers from the opening performances, stole the show by dancing to it, encouraging her fellow students to join her. Soon this last song turned into an impromptu dance performance by the students themselves!

We met a variety of people that inspired us with their hopefulness, creativity and pure-hearted nature in Be Home. Instead of supporting them purely with monetary, we believed it would be more meaningful by participating ourselves in their lives. Companionship will always be the best healing. We couldn't heal their nature flaw, but we can heal their precious heart. There were 25 people that we met, but there were 2 in particular who were so rambunctious that I have to share their names with you – Khor Weng Liang and Cheah Mei Fern. Khor Weng Liang (26 years old man) and Cheah Mei Fern (46 years old woman) were the two most lively participants, both having down syndrome and were the joys of our groups with their wide smiles and gung-ho! spirit.
